Stephanie Teleen started her working life at the age of 6 picking up cigarette butts for $.01 apiece in the
parking lot at her parents’ motel on Cape Cod.  Luckily she didn’t know enough about life to understand what
a truly terrible job this was.  When she was finally promoted to Soda Machine Manager a few summers later,
she could see evidence that with hard work comes big reward (or at least a lot of soda).

Throughout grade school, though college and in the many years after, Stephanie continued to work at an
interesting array of jobs while developing a love for all things active;  hiking, running, skiing, snowboarding,
swimming, biking, and snowshoeing were all important parts of her life in Vermont, a place she moved shortly
after college graduation.  In the entrepreneurial spirit of her childhood, she often imagined turning her
passion for outdoor activities into a viable business venture.

Finally, in 2001 when Stephanie was  pregnant with her first child, she tried to find maternity clothing that
would allow her to stay active throughout her pregnancy.  With no appropriate clothing available, she
begrudgingly wore her husband’s giant sweatpants.  She spent her maternity leave from her job in marketing
dreaming up a company that would make the kind of clothing she was looking for.

Two years later, when she became pregnant with her second child, Stephanie was still at a loss for well-
made, cool, lifestyle-oriented, performance maternity clothes.  She wasn’t thinking about just clothes for the
gym, but rather clothing to really live in; on the trails, walking the dog and sitting on the couch.  At that point
she knew that starting a clothing company for active pregnant women was the great business idea she had
been waiting for.

In 2007, Jakfish was finally born.  Since then, Jakfish clothing has won the Polartec® APEX award in 2008
and appeared in
Shape magazine.

Stephanie is very thankful that she's made great strides in her professional life since her days in the parking
lot at the motel.  So are her parents.
